@gbhnews “it’s old-fashioned economics: if demand goes up, but supply does not, prices are going to increase, and they’re going to increase very rapidly”. Yes, Boston was a key source of innovation in the early days of #zoning . I believe height caps started there in North America, and then DC and then NYC
@gbhnews
My grandparents were ferocious scrabble players, and I grew up with the rules being "if the biggest dictionary in the house says it's not a proper noun, and abbreviation, or a foreign term, it's legal". I remember going out one time to get my grandmother a new Word Book, because hers was literally falling apart.
I don't play - not good at that stuff - but I know the basics.
You know what's nice about here...knowing I can criticize and call out any corporation, politician, or wealth hoarder without being suppressed, hidden, etc at the whim of advertisers or megalomaniacs. #Fediverse
@gbhnews hi! that makes sense. I'm not an expert, of course, but here's how I'd rewrite it: "1.3 million people trapped as Israel bombs Rafah" because that's the bigger news. Focusing on "Palestinian militants" is misleading, as if this a battle between equals rather than the domination of one over the other.
thanks so much for the reply! your presence here really does rule!
@gbhnews The last (known) surviving runner from Bannister’s record race was also the only American: George Dole of Bath, Maine (via Yale). Dole had an illustrious career as a theologian in the Swedenborgian church and lived in Newton for years before retiring to Bath in the late ‘90s and taking over his father’s pulpit there. He died in 2021, still a regular runner and happy to talk about his little bit of history: https://www.runnersworld.com/news/a20807933/the-unknown-american-in-the-first-sub-4-00-mile/
